Have you been wanting to reach a certain fitness goal for, like, ever and it just feels like you're not getting any closer? Do you feel like you've tried every diet, every workout program, every miracle product out there and nothing seems to work?
You are not alone. Sooo many clients I've worked with have told me all the different things they try to lose weight and get in shape and so I want to share a few key things you can do to end the cycle.
If you're more of an audio/visual person, click here to catch my video sharing these tips. If you prefer to read, carry on...
1. Looking to the next thing that will give you the result you want, thinking the next one will always be "it," the ONE thing that will finally get you to your goal... all of these things are external. And while many products & programs out there can support you in reaching your goals, there has to be internal changes that occur otherwise the old habits & behaviors don't stop. You may be able to hide them for a few weeks or months due to the excitement of starting something new, but until the internal work is done, the external support won't work when it comes to actually seeing lifelong results.
2. Think about the result you are wanting to achieve. What is this product promising you? What will it give you that you don't have right now? If it's a workout program that advertises people with six pack abs, what do six pack abs mean to you? Go deeper than how you will look because I guarantee there is some greater desire there. Is it confidence? Is it being admired? Is it acceptance?
3. Why do you not have that now? What is keeping you from feeling accepted, more confident, happier? Back to the example of six pack abs.. Having a six pack doesn't mean healthy. Many people with ripped physiques actually have obsessive behaviors around food and fitness. So maybe it's time to redefine what health & happiness mean to you vs. what instagram tells you it is.
4. The more dramatic the result, the more dramatic changes required. If you've never worked out a day in your life, or you've never thought about what you put on your plate yet you're buying a program that promises abs in 3 weeks... It's probably not going to happen. And then we just blame the product or say it isn't good when it's us that needs to change first.
One of the reasons I don't promise dramatic results from my programs or encourage clients to take before & afters is because I don't believe in using appearances as a measure of worth or work well done. People lose weight for many reasons. Sometimes it's healthy, but often it is due to things like heartache, stress, or mental health issues. And because of this, I work really hard to NOT praise people for changes in body composition. Because we never know. Weight loss isn't always healthy. And healthy & happy look & feel sooo many different ways.
So I encourage you to take some time for yourself and figure out what it means to you. What are some characteristics of the healthiest & happiest version of you?
And if you feel so inclined, you can share your characteristics with me! I'd love to help you brainstorm some techniques and tools to turn that list into a plan.
Make it a kickass day! Melody
